A bond between two people for the rest of their lives is marriage all about. In India, many religions and cultures are followed. Even the wedding rituals vary from place to place. What you Should Know About Kamma Society
It is one of the oldest societies in India. There are many legendary stories behind the naming of the society. One of the most popular stories is of sages who are troubled by demons and rakshas. They go to Goddess Laxmi for getting protection from the Lord Vishnu himself. The Goddess hands her most precious ornament, i.e. her earring, in a casket to the sage.

The casket was worshipped by the sages for over a century before warriors at large numbers came and destroyed the demons. The earring of the Goddess Laxmi is also called Kamma in South India. This is how the Kamma society got its name. Kamma matrimonial rituals are completely different from other rituals and hence, they stand out completely.

Finding Bride or Groom in Kamma Society
Over the years there have been changes in the way people are looking partner for Shaadi. In earlier times, people were dependent on their relatives or neighbors to find a match. Most of the people used to look for eligible bachelors and spinsters for their sons and daughters.

But now things have changed drastically. People now look at matrimonial sites to find the right match. The reason is that now young men and women move out of their homes to pursue their careers. Also, they have now become more independent and hence, prefer to choose their partners.

There has been an increase in people using matrimonial websites to look for a match. You can find specialized matrimonial websites that focus on matches from society or a community. You can easily find Kamma matrimony brides from a Kamma matrimony website.

The Kamma Wedding Style
No matter how modern one maybe, people still prefer to look for a life partner within their society or community. Kamma people too are no different as they too prefer to find a match within their society for better compatibility. They have spears and swords that they worship during auspicious occasions. These weapons have names of the ancestors and hence, they are worshiped as a way to pay their respect and seek their blessings. Before the wedding, the bride and the groom have to be part of a Sami puja that is initiated by the brother of the bride.

In a traditional wedding ceremony, the bride is expected to walk on the bed of hot coal. Most of the time the wedding takes place in the groom’s house. However, it can also take place in the bride’s house in a Kannikadhanam. This means that the bride is being married off without any price. A box is also prepared as part of the ceremony that consists of newlywed’s clothes along with many other items such as money, jewels, etc. The box is then kept near the parents of the couple.

In most of the rituals in Kamma society, the couple has to wear a silver thread. However, things change according to the place. But there is not much difference between Tamil Kamma society or Kannada Kamma society rituals.

Various Rituals in Kamma Society
Just like any other Hindu wedding, various rituals are followed by Kamma society. Here are some of the important ones.
Nalagu: It is a ritual where the bride and the groom are applied turmeric and oil on their shoulders. This is also the first ritual that takes place before the wedding.
Vira Gudi Mokaddam: In this ritual, the bride and groom worship their ancestors to seek their blessings. Under a pandal, 5 bricks are kept that represent their ancestors. A small puja is then performed by simply breaking the coconut and burning incense sticks.
Pellikuthuru: It is another ritual that is similar to haldi in other parts of the wedding ceremonies. Once the Haldi ceremony is over, the couple is supposed to wear new clothes and enjoy the remaining day with their family and friends.
Kashi Yatra: It is one of the fun-filled ceremonies in a Kannam wedding ceremony. The groom is supposed to run away from his wedding. The groom is supposed to inform his father about not wanting to get married and he wants to become a priest. The father is then expected to convince his son into getting married.

The whole Kannam wedding ceremony is worth being part of due to its rituals that standout. These days matchmaking has become easy due to the technology and various matrimonial websites.

It is quite easy to make a matrimony profile in any of the Kannam matrimonial sites. It is also a perfect way to find a partner within your community. You can meet anyone from your community who is living anywhere in the world. Due to these conveniences, the best way to find your partner in the Kannam community is to get your profile made online.
