If you are looking for Maharashtrian brides or grooms, Marathi Brahmin matrimony sites will help you a lot. Let’s have a look at the traditional and cheerful Maharashtrian marriage ceremony in this article.

Pre-Wedding Rituals

Lagnaach Bedior
This ritual includes matching the horoscopes of the Marathi brides and grooms before starting any customs. The family priest then declares a favourable date and time for the wedding.

Sakhar Puda
After Lagnaach bedior, the engagement ceremony begins. This official engagement ceremony is termed Sakhar Puda in Marathi marriage. The groom’s mother showers blessings on the bride by applying Haldi-Kumkum on the bride’s forehead and gifting her with a saree, jewellery, and Sakhar puda or sweets. The mother of the bride also blesses the groom in the same way. After that, the bride and the groom exchange engagement rings.

Kelvan
The ritual Kelvan is performed before the wedding. Both the families worship their ’kuldevta’ or family deity for blessings. This ceremony is followed by a lunch.

Halad Chadavane
In the Maharashtrian wedding ritual, the Haldi ceremony is known as Halad Chadavane. Mango leaves are dipped into the turmeric paste and then applied to the face and body of the bride at the bride’s house and the groom at the groom’s house.

Wedding Rituals
Marathi wedding rituals are an amalgamation of Pujas and vows. There is quite a similarity between Marathi and South Indian wedding traditions like Saptapadhi and kanyadan. However, you will find some uniqueness in the Maharashtrian wedding ceremony too.

Ganapati Puja, Gurihar Puja and Devdevak
The wedding day starts with the worship of Lord Ganesha for a bright future for the couple. Kuldevta is invited to the Mandap. Gurihar Puja means worship to the goddess Parvati being dressed in wedding attire. The bride offers some rice, given by her uncle, to the Goddess.

Punyavachan & SeemanPuja
In Marathi Brahmin bride’s matrimony, the bride’s parents take the bride to the wedding venue. Everyone then blesses their daughter. This ritual is known as Punyavachan.

After the groom’s arrival, the bride’s mothers accept him with sweets and Aarti. By applying Tilak on his forehead and by washing the groom’s feet, the bride’s mother finishes the Seemanpuja ritual.

Antarpat
In Marathi Matrimony, Antarpat or curtain is hanged between the bride and the groom. A priest utters some mantras. This is done for restricting the vision of the bride and the groom.

Sankalp
Sankalp ritual includes the removal of the shawl from the front of both bride and groom. Then the couple looks at each other and exchanges garlands while showering the couple with unbroken rice grains.

Post Wedding Rituals

Varat
Varat in Marathi Brahmin matrimony means the farewell of the bride from her parent’s house. This ritual includes a procession up to the groom\’s house. The groom takes Parvati idol from Gurihar puja.

Grihaprbesh
The newly married couple reaches the groom’s house. The mother of the groom receives the couple by performing Aarti and washing their feet with milk and water. The bride and the groom enter the house with the right foot forward.

Conclusion
The wedding rituals end with a reception arranged by the groom’s family. The guests are invited by the groom’s family and they shower their blessings on the couple. In this ceremony, the bride’s family members and relatives are also invited. For a perfect match for Marathi Brahmin bride or groom, our matrimonial site is quite helpful.
